Synthesis of natural and plant-based nanohydrogel films as hemostatic wound dressings for injured soldiers

Abstract
Injuries and wounds resulting from natural and man-made disasters, particularly on battlefields, leading to severe bleeding, are among the major causes of global mortality. The use of effective hemostatic materials for wound management is crucial. Today, the focus is on using biocompatible and non-toxic materials with optimal performance in this field. Recent advancements in nanomaterials have driven research towards the development and synthesis of wound dressings based on nanotechnology.
Chitosan, a natural polymer derived from marine sources, is commonly used in wound dressings, especially in the form of hydrogels. The use of various effective cross-linking agents for this polymeric material is of particular importance, as the use of advanced wound healing and blood clotting materials that are both economical and biocompatible is essential. In this study, carbon quantum dots derived from coriander leaves have been used as a cross-linking agent in chitosan hydrogel films due to their non-toxicity, possibility of synthesis from natural and biological materials, very low cost of preparation and synthesis, antibacterial properties, and the ability to form various physical and chemical bonds. This, in turn, is considered one of the innovative studies in the field of bio-nanomaterials in the field of wound dressings.
