Abstract
Dealing with security with a neighborhood-based approach has always been neglected in social research, and most research has considered various aspects of security such as political, social, economic and cultural, which have always had difficulties in measuring them. Especially in our country, what has become more common and people consider it as an indicator of security is the feeling they see or feel in their neighborhood about the threats to themselves and their families, and they further define the function of security agencies by providing this level of security.
The present research has used a descriptive-analytical method by comparing the most used social networks of the country (WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram) in terms of their impact on the sense of security in the marginal neighborhoods of 4 southern districts of Tehran (15, 18, 19 and 20) in 2011. For this purpose, the research questionnaire was distributed among young users by snowball method, and after collecting the data, consensus table and Somers correlation method were used for statistical analysis. By examining the data obtained from the questionnaire, it was concluded that all three of these networks have a significant relationship with the sense of security of young people in the peripheral neighborhoods of Tehran, and among users with an average level of use, WhatsApp has the highest sense of security in the neighborhood and Instagram has the lowest sense of security among users.
